The book Invisible Man shows different symbols in the book that relate to racism and prejudice.
The Liberty Paints:
While comparing The Liberty Paints to America, the factory makes its name with actions of liberty and freedom, but it incorporates racism in most of its operations. By portraying The Liberty Paints plant as a factory that produces paint, the author Ralph Ellison is is granted to make differing statements about colors in a literal sense. Consequently, when the factory staff embellish the quality and superiority of their white paint, their statements seem to be similar to disagreements about white supremacy. The plant’s claim that its trademark product, which is the “Optic White”, can mask any stain or blemish, Ellison makes a sharp observation about American society’s allegations to cover the black identity with the dominant white culture, to ignore the differences between the two, and to treat dark skinned people as the “stains” that are treated by the white “purity.”
